A 39-year-old Buddhist monk Ven Ashin Saddhamma from Twan Tay was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment in connection with 2007 September protests.

Five Buddhist monks Ven. U Nanda, Ven. U Vilasagga, Ven. Ashin Aggadhamma, Ven. Ashin Issariya and Ven. Ashin Janeya from Ngwe Kyar Yan Monastery were aslo sentenced to 6 years imprisonment each for leading peaceful protests ( known as Saffron Revolution).

The monks were convicted of unlawful assembly, joining unlawful associations, creating public alarm and seditious activities.

They were sentenced in a closed-door trial without their defence lawyers , and relatives are not allowed to appear in court.

Burma's Army raided many monasteries at 2007 September's midnights and arrested more than 700 monks.
